Oak Rocking Chair

It is no secret that the rocking chair has been one of the most sought out and beloved pieces of furniture in just about every home throughout the years.  Rocking chairs come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, designs, sizes, and even the materials used for the actual manufacturing of it.

A large majority of rocking chairs, whether old style or modern are made from different kinds of wood.  One of the most commonly found rocking chairs out there is the oak rocking chair.  Oak has long since been known to be one of the most durable and desirable woods used for furniture production, and anyone who has owned oak furniture would know that owning an oak rocking chair requires some simple enough measures to be taken in order to keep the chair in tip-top shape.

Like any other oak furniture, the oak rocking chair should always be kept away from harmful elements that may weaken its surface.  Some of the most harmful elements to oak in itself include excessive dryness, dampness, heat and cold.  Oak rockers should always be kept at a proper and moderate temperature and extra care should be taken not to spill any fluids on the oak or expose the oak chair to direct sunlight as much as it is possible.

In particular, oak rocking chairs have been known to develop dark circles or rings –  stains that can be caused by the above mentioned elements.  In the event of encountering a stain on your rocking chair, do not fret, as the solutions to this are fairly easy.  Olive oil is a substance that is believed to keep oak at its best condition as well as even out any stains that may develop over lengthy periods of time.  Bear in mind always that of all woods available out there, oak is the one that has characteristics of live wood.  This means that it is susceptible to the elements of nature that can change it.  olive oil is a natural remedy for many things, and oak is something it can very readily maintain.

If you should encounter dark age spots or spill water, juice, coffee or soda on your oak rocking chairs, wipe the stained area with a little bit of olive oil and allow it to be absorbed.  Usually, overnight, you will notice the stain begin to even out and dwindle away.  Fortunately, because oak is usually produced to have a light and sheen finish, waxing is not very necessary for oak rocking chairs.  Should you, as the owner, feel the need to go out and purchase wood wax to apply to it and keep it in good condition, however, it is advisable to polish or wax the oak rocker chair only about three times a year.
